WTF? Nicolas Cage Once Sought By Joel Schumacher For What Would Have Been ‘Batman Triumphant’?

Nicolas Cage

With hindsight being 20/20, the fact that a third film in the amazingly craptastic run of Batman films directed by Joel Schumacher seems laughable and unlikely. However, one must remember that there was indeed a third film planned.

Following Batman And Robin, Mark Protosevich had written a draft of a new film, Batman Triumphant, which would have seen the maligned filmmaker get back behind the camera for another take at the caped crusader.

Not much else is really known about what the project would have entailed, other than the fact that it would have seen Batman and Robin taking on The Scarecrow. And now, according to The Playlist, we know who The Scarecrow would have been: Nicolas Cage.

That’s right, the outlet spoke to Schumacher, who revealed that Cage was being talked with about coming aboard the film, before the film fell apart, along with his take on John Grisham’s Runaway Jury.

Personally, while I despise his takes on Batman, I do sadistically love the idea of Cage as The Scarecrow. He’s just the right amount of crazy and off the wall, making this a really interesting choice. We’ll never see this film, but hey, one can imagine, right?

  1. As Scarecrow? I’m with you about “sadistically loving” the idea of Cage as Scarecrow. And with Joel Schumacher at the helm, even if it was as bad as it sounds, it would’ve been entertaining!

  2. I first read the headline inferring Cage was supposed to be the Batman for the last Schumacher film.  I started foaming at the mouth.  But Cage as Scarecrow?  Actually don’t mind that so much; that might actually be pretty fun to watch.
