Another day, another bunch of news and/or rumors breaking surrounding the world of Star Trek and the impending sequel to the last J.J. Abrams-directed hit.
First up, Showbiz 411 is reporting that the upcoming sequel will not be including any cast members from the original television series, unlike its predecessor, which starred Leonard Nimoy in a rather pivotal role. Sorry, no Shatner this time either folks.
More noteable, Abrams sat down with MTV, and revealed that the upcoming film will likely shoot in 2D and possibly in IMAX, but will be released in a post-converted 3D format. Bummer.
Overall, I find it hard to gauge either of these stories. Personally, I actually like that they are avoiding bringing back previous cast members, despite having already found a way to cluster up the continuity. And as far as the 3D goes, it has been proven that post-conversion rarely, if ever, works, so my expectations on that front have really been shot already. I’m very much excited for this film as a piece of work, but neither of these bits of news raise or hinder those expectations. What about you?
