It was announced Friday that Lionsgate had completed an acquisition of Summit Entertainment for a grand total of $412.5 million. And while that sounds like a lot of coin, the purchase comes with a little franchise called The Twilight Saga, which has already inexplicably brought in over $2.5 BILLION in worldwide box office…as we can only look on, stunned, shaking our heads.

The one great thing (for said stunned head-shaking public, anyway) about The Twilight Saga was the fact that we knew that after they drew it out as long as possible and milked every penny they could out of their fans, it would be done and over with. Such a silly thing for us to hope for.

The LA Times has already been able to chat with Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer, and, naturally, asked him if the franchise would live on after The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 came and went. His answer will excite the army of Twi-Hards, while the rest of us weep with worry.

Feltheimer said that he sees Breaking Dawn Part 2 piling on another $700 million or more to the existing mountain of cash before going on to say:

As much as many of us wished with all our might that the movies would end soon, it’s not all that shocking to hear that they’re most likely going to make more in the future. It makes perfect business sense, despite how much pain in might cause us.

The only question is HOW do they continue it? Do they reboot it? Do they work with author Stephenie Meyer to write new material that future films can be adapted from? Do they make up their own storylines? There’s options, but which is best remains a mystery.

Those of you who are fans—if you can stop seething with anger at my blatant hatred of this abomination of a franchise—how would you like to see it continue?
