Nick Fury Banner

Marvel Entertainment is gearing up for their big film The Avengers, hitting theaters in May. This Sunday a new commercial with never before seen footage will air during the Super Bowl and on the Marvel Comics App, the company is giving away the first issue of a prequel comic book miniseries.

The miniseries is titled Marvel’s The Avengers Prelude: Fury’s Big Week and it will run for 8 issues. After this Sunday’s free issue is released, subsequent installments will be released on the app each Tuesday for 99 cents each.

“We’ve worked hand-in-hand with Marvel Studios to create an exciting story set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe that sets the stage perfectly for the most anticipated film of the summer,” said Axel Alonso, Marvel Editor in Chief. “Now, for the first time. you’ll find out just what happened to some of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes on the road to Marvel’s The Avengers.”

The issue promises more information on what the Avengers Initiative is and to offer up some more insight into who Nick Fury is. Some of you comic book fans may be shouting “We know all of this already!” Well, remember, this comic book miniseries will be based completely in the Marvel cinematic universe so many things can be and most assuredly will be different than what we know from the standard Marvel U. I doubt the differences are going to be that excessive considering what we’ve seen in the Marvel films so far, but there is room for character development and storytelling that is different than that of the classic comics.

Marvel’s The Avengers Prelude: Fury’s Big Week comes from the creative team of Chris Yost, Eric Pearson, and Luke Ross. Check out the preview images from the first issue below!

  1. I get nervous when I hear about movie adaptations of Marvel because it can either go really right (Thor, First Class) or reeeealy wrong (X3, anyone)?  I don’t mind people farking with canon, just so long as they do a good job with the new reinterpretations.

    Smiles!
