Arkham City

The collected Kindle edition of the Batman: Arkham City mini-series is currently available on Amazon for a low price of $9.99.

I’ve been made aware of the fact that this comic was not on everybody’s radar when it was released, so it’s been tasked upon me to let all of you about this sale that’s currently going on. It’s honestly a really good sale, at that. The standard retail price for the Kindle edition of this book is $19.99, so it’s a ten dollar savings. Good deal, right? Well, those are just the specifics of the sale. Let’s talk about the comic for a moment, shall we?

First thing’s first, do not judge this book by its cover. I mean that literally. The cover art for this book is the same style of art that was being used to promote the game with character and set designs. It is in no way indicative of the art style that’s in the book. That said, the art from Carlos D’Anda is actually really good on its own. D’Anda was one of the game designers for Arkham City, so he knows the settings and characters as much as anyone possibly could, and while it come off in more of an animated style, it still feels like it exists in the Arkham City video game’s universe, which is all you can really ask for in a book like this. The other aspect of this series is the writing from Arkham Asylum and Arkham City story writer, Paul Dini. Paul Dini has a list of credits to his name including Batman: The Animated Series, Detective Comics, Jem, Streets of Gotham, and plenty more. In my opinion, he’s a legendary name in comics, and he makes his presence known in this comic. It’s not his best entry into his extensive catalog, but it’s definitely a strong addition.

Now that we’ve gotten the creators addressed, some of you still may be wondering what this comic is. Is it a comic adaptation of the video game? No, it’s not. And that’s one of the coolest things about the series. The comic bridges the gap between 2009’s Batman: Arkham Asylum and 2011’s Arkham City video games. So, basically it tells the story of how Batman and his rogues, including The Joker, Penguin and Hugo Strange, got from the events when Joker got hyped up on Titan formula and basically destroyed all of Arkham Asylum to how the prison city of Arkham City was created.

The comic is a lot of fun, and while it’s not completely necessary to the plot and enjoyment of either the Arkham Asylum or Arkham City games, it still provides a great read. If you’re aware of this deal and you have a Kindle, make sure to pick it up while it’s still on sale. Or, if you don’t have a Kindle, pick up the really gorgeous hardcover edition for only $12.15.

So in conclusion, no matter what, you should head on over to Amazon to grab the Kindle edition on sale now!
