Batman Incorporated? Not entirely, but a former police officer in Brazil is donning the cape, cowl and mantle of Batman in way that he hopes will prevent crime.
Dressed as Batman, Andre Luiz Pinheiro is doing his part to set an example to the youth of Brazil who oftentimes don’t feel trustworthy of the police of the area due to speculation of cooperation with organized crime groups. The image of Batman is being used as a vision of the ultimate good guy working with the police to let children know that trusting the police isn’t an entirely bad idea. Considering the trend towards youth oriented crime in these Brazilians areas, it doesn’t seem like such a bad idea to try to get the youth to start respecting and understanding the law. Enter Batman.
Check out the video below.
As stated above, Batman isn’t fighting crime like he does in some cities around the world, but in this video embedded below, you can see him play soccer (fútbol) with kids, providing a good role model, and inspiring others. And while I’m not entirely comfortable with Batman working as an agent of the police and endorsing the police force that has been labeled as corrupt by some, I’m in awe at the fact that all across the globe, people are legitimately using Batman as a force of good, and isn’t that what it’s all about? Batman on a budget and all that? To me, it’s truly inspiring that the message of Batman is making its way into real life.
