DC Entertainment announced on Wednesday that it would be altering its DC Direct action figure and collectibles line by rebranding as DC Collectibles.
DC Collectibles is doing a lot to expand its online presence most importantly by offering all of its products online through their official website, which launches in May. One reason why this is significant is that in its prior incarnation, DC Direct offered nothing as far as purchasing on the site. Customers were either to be redirected to separate sites, or given a list of retailers that carried DC Direct statues and action figures.
Hank Kanals, senior vice president of DC Entertainment, digital, realized the error in the procedure:
Not all of our fans have access to comic book retail locations, so by expanding our website to offer the entire product line, we’re adding an element of convenience and the ability for fans to collect every single product they’re interested in.
In doing this, DC Collectibles has announced the first offerings for the site will be a Flashpoint box set which includes the Flashpoint versions of Batman, Aquaman, Womder Woman, The Flash, and a Wayne Casino poker chip. Also available will be a Heroes of The DC Universe: Blackest Night Green Lantern and Sinestro as Green Lantern bust. Another specific announcement for DC Collectibles is a set of 20 archival quality prints that will features art styles and themes other than just comic book art.
Personally, I think all of these announcement are wonderful as I prefer ordering directly from a company primarily, but also because the offerings of prints is something that not a lot of other companies produce, while also not competing with comic book artist prints. Quality prints are something that I adore as it’s a cheap way to have something unique that you can frame that’s way cooler than a normal poster.
DC Collectibles will premiere online in May.
