The Jungle Book

Move over Disney, there’s a new studio that wants to tell the tale of The Jungle Book, Rudyard Kipling‘s collection of stories about his adventures and excursions in dangerous jungles. Though the most notable incarnation of Kipling’s work was the animated version that Disney released, the studio also had a live-action move starring Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli.

Warner Bros. is hiring Harry Potter screenwriter Steve Kloves to write and direct the new live-action version of The Jungle Book. This wouldn’t be the first time that Kloves has directed a movie. He previously worked on The Fabulous Baker Boys and Flash and Bone.

Werewolves and Lollipops

In the summer of 2004 Patton Oswalt‘s career in comedy went supernova almost overnight when his first stand-up CD Feelin’ Kinda Patton was released. In that instant he evolved from a moderately well-known comedian and King of Queens co-star to one of the universe’s funniest and imaginative personalities. Three years after the release of his first CD, Oswalt made a blazing return to record stores with his brilliantly titled follow-up album Werewolves and Lollipops; its unheralded genius, coupled with the successful theatrical release that summer of the Pixar animated delight Ratatouille, confirmed Oswalt as a force to be reckoned with in the world of comedy.

This month, Patton Oswalt’s epic second comedy album is on sale at Amazon as part of their monthly $5 MP3 deal. You can also check out more of these deals at the main sale page and order Werewolves and Lollipops on CD here.

The Rock in Pain and Gain

During the late ’90s, my junior high class was completely fascinated by Dwayne “˜The Rock’ Johnson. They questioned teachers and fellow classmates with his infamous question: “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?”

Ten years and a few movies later, Johnson has made a name for himself outside the wrestling ring. He is just one of the many stars who will appear in Michael Bay‘s new passion project Pain & Gain and in this new image, people will once again be asking themselves: “Can you smell what The Rock is cooking?”

The Shining (1980)

Stanley Kubrick‘s classic 1980 adaptation of Stephen King‘s novel The Shining was probably the last great horror film of the decade that gave us such timeless scare fests as The Exorcist, The Texas Chain Saw Massacre, Carrie, and Halloween. Though the snobbish cinemaphiles are reluctant to group The Shining in with the director’s other masterworks of the silver screen the movie has endured and grown in popularity over the past three decades. It is now regarded as one of the greatest horror films ever made.

An 80-second video collage of every zoom shot from The Shining has been assembled by Ian Kammer. You can watch it here below.
