Director Neill Blomkamp‘s follow-up to the 2009 hit District 9, Elysium, will once again feature a blend of sci-fi and social issues. Since production for the film has been heavily guarded, outside of who is cast, we know very little about the film. But with San Diego Comic-Con just around the corner, all that will change when Blomkamp himself will make an appearance to talk about the film.
To tease that much anticipated panel, an image has been released offering us our first look at a bald Matt Damon with a heavy duty gun. You can see the image above, or a bigger version below.
There isn’t too much we can take away from the photo alone. The name ChemRail is branded along the body of the gun, so the corporation itself must be of some importance to the film. Hopefully there will be a nice viral that is tied into this.
Here’s the official synopsis for the film:
In the year 2159 two classes of people exist: the very wealthy who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. Secretary Rhodes (Jodie Foster), a hard line government ofï¬cial, will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve the luxurious lifestyle of the citizens of Elysium. That doesn’t stop the people of Earth from trying to get in, by any means they can. When unlucky Max (Matt Damon) is backed into a corner, he agrees to take on a daunting mission that if successful will not only save his life, but could bring equality to these polarized worlds.
Elysium also stars Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, William Fichtner and Diego Luna, and opens on March 1st, 2013.
