Christopher Nolan has changed the way we look at Batman now and forever. A more grounded approach gave audiences a more believable hero that can exist in the real world. Previously the director has said that The Dark Knight Rises will be his last film in the Batman trilogy. Now Nolan has gone on to say that he won’t be producing any Batman-related films or the Justice League movie.
Entertainment Weekly asked Nolan if he was interested in at least producing future incarnations of Batman, to which Nolan replied no, and added, “we’re finished with all we’re doing with Batman. This is the end of our take on this character.”
Nolan added that Batman is a character that will live on for future generations for others to reinterpret and its up to Warner Bros to decide how they want to put Batman on screen. Which makes a lot of sense since he is now handing the torch back to the studio.
Well to be honest, Nolan deserves to do something different. After all, he did give WB two – soon-to-be three – successful Batman films. So why bind him to something he isn’t remotely interested in. However it will be extremely difficult for any director to top the kind of Batman that Nolan has given us, since he set the bar very high.
WB is definitely looking forward to an ensemble superhero movie of their own, but since Nolan’s Batman is definitively in its own universe and Man of Steel reportedly not a part of the Justice League plan, its hard to say how the studio wants to plan all of this out.
