We’ve seen a poster and a behind the scenes look at Sam Raimi‘s Oz: The Great and Powerful, now it’s time for the trailer to come out, and it could not have debuted at a better time.
During the Disney panel at the San Diego Comic-Con, Raimi debuted the first trailer for the film, and does it look like a lot of colorful fun.
You can check out the trailer below.
The trailer starts off in black and white and introduces you to Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a magician who dreams of becoming something more than just a regular Kansas-based carnival magician. His passion drives him to look for the answer, but a troublesome tornado puts him in the land of Oz and in a situation where he has to prove himself to the three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz), and Glinda (Michelle Williams)
Oz: The Great and Powerful looks like it has that same bubblegum pop feel that Tim Burton’s Alice in Wonderland had. Maybe it’s because Joe Roth is producing this or maybe it’s because it’s Raimi’s sense of directing style — whatever it is, Oz: The Great and Powerful looks like it will be a lot of fun to watch.
Oz: The Great and Powerful opens in theaters on March 8, 2013.
Here’s the synopsis:
Disney’s fantastical adventure “Oz The Great and Powerful,” directed by Sam Raimi, imagines the origins of L. Frank Baum’s beloved character, the Wizard of Oz. When Oscar Diggs (James Franco), a small-time circus magician with dubious ethics, is hurled away from dusty Kansas to the vibrant Land of Oz, he thinks he’s hit the jackpot””fame and fortune are his for the taking””that is until he meets three witches, Theodora (Mila Kunis), Evanora (Rachel Weisz) and Glinda (Michelle Williams), who are not convinced he is the great wizard everyone’s been expecting. Reluctantly drawn into the epic problems facing the Land of Oz and its inhabitants, Oscar must find out who is good and who is evil before it is too late. Putting his magical arts to use through illusion, ingenuity””and even a bit of wizardry””Oscar transforms himself not only into the great and powerful Wizard of Oz but into a better man as well.
