Michael Kenneth Williams, who plays Chalky White on the incredible HBO series Boardwalk Empire, has entered into negotiations for a role in MGM’s upcoming RoboCop remake.

Williams would play the partner to Alex Murphy (played by Joel Kinnaman), the cop who’s gunned down by a ruthless gang while on the job, and then turned into a cyborg super cop to help fight the out of control crime rate. Nancy Allen played the role of the partner to Murphy (Peter Weller) in the original movie.

Whether you’re open to or infuriated by a remake of RoboCop, you can’t deny how good the cast is. Other names include Hugh Laurie as the villain, plus Samuel L. Jackson, Gary Oldman, Jay Baruchel, Abbie Cornish, and Jackie Earle Haley.

The movie is set to begin production this September, with an August 9, 2013 release date currently scheduled.
