One of the biggest roles that had been still uncast for the upcoming third season of HBO’s hit fantasy series Game of Thrones, was that of Mance Rayder, king of the Wildlings.
Now comes word that producers have found their Mance, and he happens to have some prior experience with HBO shows. It’s being reported that Ciarán Hinds has been cast as Mr. Rayder, ending an extended run of fan speculation and wishing.
Hinds is incredibly well-traveled, appearing in many different types of shows and movies over the years. One of his best roles was playing Gaius Julius Caesar on another incredible (yet tragically before its time and short-lived) HBO series, Rome.
Other notable titles Hinds has appeared in include Road to Perdition, Munich, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, and There Will Be Blood, among many others.
Tobias Menzies, who also starred in Rome as Brutus (ironically enough), has also joined the cast of Game of Thrones as Cat’s brother, Edmure Tully.

Ciarán Hinds is one of my favorite actors. He pours everything into his roles. I can’t wait to see him take on GoT!

I envisioned Mance Rayder younger, due to the harsh short life-span the north is. Now Tormund I always pictured as a big old man, like a giant dwarf.
