Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor will be expanding the Marvel Cinematic Universe with Thor: The Dark World. Christopher Eccleston has already been cast as film’s newest baddie, Malekith the Accursed, and Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be there to support Eccleston. Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Natalie Portman, Kat Dennings, Idris Elba, and Anthony Hopkins will all return to reprise their respective roles.
Now the sequel is getting some new additions to the cast, and while you may not immediately recognize their names, you will recognize the roles they previously played.
Deadline reports that Game of Thrones newcomer Clive Russell (cast as Ser Brynden Tully for Season 3 in the HBO series) will be joining the cast of the sequel as a captain in Thor’s Einherjar fighting force, possibly the same fighting force we have been seeing in leaked set photos. The significance of Brake’s role depends on the size of these epic battles. If it’s anything like Lord of the Rings, we could be seeing a lot of his character.
The site also reports that Richard Brake will play Tyr, Thor’s older brother. The comics portray Tyr is known as the Asgardian god of War. Again, the character is possibly connected to these leaked set photos showing some pretty big battle sequences. Russell is best known for his role as Joe Chill, the man who killed Bruce Wayne’s parents in Christopher Nolan’s Batman Beings.
So are you excited that the cast of Thor: The Dark World is expanding? Do you think Russell has it in him to lead Thor’s fighting force? Does Brake have the ability to play as an Asgardian god?
