When we reported that The Descendants star Shailene Woodley was cast for the role of Mary Jane Watson in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, we also learned that Electro would be the villain and that Marc Webb was looking for an actor to play Harry Osborne. A lot has happened since the news broke, which also happened to coincide with the Blu-ray and DVD release of the film.
During the press day for the Blu-ray release, it was confirmed that Academy Award winning Jamie Foxx was cast as Electro. Now we are learning that the sequel will feature the Harry Osborne character and that three young actors are vying for the role.
According to THR, Melancholia and Martha Marcy May Marlene star Brady Cobert, Tetro and Stoker‘s Alden Ehrenreich, and Chronicle‘s Dane Dehaan are just some of the names who are up to play the son of Norman Osborne a.k.a. the Green Goblin.
The script is still in its infancy stage as the character was originally written to more of an athletic and jocky type personality. According to the trade, the character has been rewritten with a darker and edgier tone. Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci are currently busy rewriting the script based on the draft that James Vanderbilt penned.
Having never seen Tetro, I am not sure how I feel about Corbet taking the job, but if I had to choose between Ehrenreich and Dehaan, I would like to see Dehaan take the job. He gave a wonderful performance in Chronicle earlier this year and will appear alongside Ryan Gosling in The Place Beyond The Pines early next year. Ehrenreich will appear in WB’s supernatural romancer Beautiful Creatures in February.
Whomever gets the role, he will join Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Sally Field, all of whom will reprise their respective roles.
Filming is expected to begin in February. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 opens in theaters on May 2nd 2014.
