Green Hornet #30 fills in a much needed gap in the current comic market. And that is super heroes solving crimes and fighting bad guys. Other companies have heroes battling heroes, fighting super villains, but this is just back to basics good guys vs. bad guys.
Author Jai Nitz turns in a fun script in this issue. It’s PACKED with new twists and turns in the Green Hornet saga. He introduces some new allies for the Hornet, does a great job moving the villains story forward without even having the villain IN THE COMIC. And, last but not least, he changes something in the Green Hornet mythos that has never been done before. So far, I kinda like it. It’ll be interesting to see where it goes and if the changes stick.
This issue also features some great character development, showing how the Britt Reid is maturing and moving forward as a MAN, not just as the Green Hornet. One of the things that I enjoyed most is the detective work and how Nitz includes ALL of the Green Hornet “team” in solving (or almost solving it) the case. He doesn’t leave out the super heroics, either, and that’s a nice touch. Basically, he’s managed to crap everything you want in a comic, into one issue. Nothing is forced and it’s very nicely done.
Jethro Morales put out another fantastic looking issue. In the short time that he’s been on this book, he’s really made it his own. Creating a whole new mood, vibe and feel to the Hornet’s universe. Also, he renders action scenes REALLY well, making them exciting, easy to follow and just plain fun. He uses more splash pages than normal, but they all have impact and most importantly, they have a legitimate reason for being there. All in all, a great looking book!
I definitely recommend this comic. It’s not a great jumping on point, but the previous issue is. Even if you don’t get Green Hornet #29, you can pretty much figure out what’s going on without a problem. This issues got some stuff in it AND it’s a game changer for the Hornet. Do yourself a favor and grab this one on Wednesday!
