Chosen & Forsaken is a nice little independent comic. This is one of those comics that you can tell the creative team put their heart and soul into, and it shows.
Author Eric Watkins does a nice job crafting a very unique story. It’s got a lot of different elements in it. Military adventure, supernatural, and zombies, and although you might think that that’s all a little much to cram into a comic, Watkins does a great job of balancing all of those elements perfectly. They’re so spread out and each given equal time, that there’s really no way to classify this comic as being just ONE genre. It’s got a little something for everyone.
Armando Rillo is a good artist. He’s not great yet, but he does a good job on this book. With some more work, he can really excel as an artist. He’s got the basic anatomy down pat, he knows how to layout a page, my only complaint is that his storytelling could use a little work. There’s a lot of awkward panels where your not quite sure what’s going on or what action is taking place. Don’t get me wrong, he’s not bad by any means, he just needs some more work to raise him up a couple of levels.
I would recommend that you give this comic a try. There is a digital version available that’s very cheap, and it’s definitely worth the download. The creative team shows some real potential, all they need is some more experience, but that will come with time.
