Grand Theft Auto V Image

Back in October we found out that Rockstar Games planned to release their highly anticipate Grand Theft Auto V sometime this spring. The news was not at all surprising as most of Rockstar’s releases of the past handful of years have come in the springtime, but now it looks like they’re tossing a wrench into that.

The gamemaker has announced that they will be pushing back the release of GTA V, but not by much. But with this bad news comes some good news in the form of an official release date.

Rockstar has announced that the game will hit store shelves on September 17th, just a few months down the road from the previous spring window that had been announced.

Here’s an official statement from the company:

“We know this is about four months later than originally planned and we know that this short delay will come as a disappointment to many of you, but, trust us, it will be worth the extra time. GTA V is a massively ambitious and complex game, and it simply needs a little more polish to be of the standard we and, more importantly, you require. To all Grand Theft Auto fans, please accept our apologies for the delay, and our promise that the entire team here is working very hard to make the game all it can be. We are doing all we can to help ensure it will meet if not exceed your expectations come September – we thank you for your support and patience.”

Though the delay is not too bad, it could still be tough considering all of the wild and crazy stuff we found out this massive, massive game is set to offer us.

Still, if you’re going to have a delay to your game, this is the way to do it. Don’t set a firm release; just a window you’re aiming for. If it’s clear that you won’t have the product perfected by said window, push it back a few months and lock it in. This way it’s not as frustrating as a game like BioShock Infinite, which we were shown years ago and have had to sit helplessly and watch as delay after delay after delay has kept it from our eager hands. Let’s just hope that GTA V doesn’t get delayed a second time!

You can pre-order Grand Theft Auto V on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 now.
