Super Dinosaur #18 is just what it sets out to be: an entertaining, fun, all-ages comic book. Nothing more, nothing less.
Writer/Creator Robert Kirkman tells a great story in this issue. I’m not talking about a deep, dark, depressing one, or one that will change your life or make you think from a different perspective at all. NO, if you’re looking for that, go pick up a copy of Watchmen. Or Blankets. Or anything else, because all you’ll find here is full tilt, awesome, bad ass fun! Kids of ALL ages will enjoy this, it really reminds me of some of the Marvel Star Comics from back in the day. Just cool art and a fun, fast-paced story with a great cliffhanger ending. I really admire Kirkman for giving almost every issue of this series a “to be continued…” ending. It’s nice that he respects his readership — no matter what the age — enough to do that.
And hey, you get Josh Howard on art! How awesome is that? Pretty great if you ask me! Howard draws these characters like he’s drawing from toy references that don’t exist…yet. I can’t help but think it’s just a matter of time before we get a Super Dinosaur line of action figures and a cartoon series. Hopefully Howard won’t leave the book to work on them.
A pretty good issue! You can catch up really quickly on what’s been going on, and you get a cool story and an ending that’ll get you eager for the next issue. Pretty good for a “kid’s book”!!
