First Look: Halle Berry As Storm In Bryan Singer’s ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’

X-Men: Days of Future Past - Storm Revealed

Bryan Singer‘s X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to hit theaters on July 18, 2014, but you won’t have to wait that long to catch a glimpse of Halle Berry reprising the role of Ororo Munroe, better known as Storm.

This will be Berry’s fourth film as the Mistress of the Elements, and she’ll be sporting a brand new hairstyle for the gig. Singer released the following image on Twitter along with the title “Storm Watch.” You can check out Berry’s new hairstyle – and her new X-Men threads here after the jump!

Well, clearly this new ‘do is meant to reference the classic mohawk look Storm sported in the ’80s. In 1983’s Uncanny X-Men #173, writer Chris Claremont and artist Paul Smith created a new look for Storm, abandoning her old costume for a black leather top and pants, and ditching her flowing veil of white hair for a punk Mohawk.

The problem is, it’s kind of a cop-out. Everyone knows Punk Revival Storm is the best Storm – and in a film that features Berry’s character in an alternate dystopian future where mutants are hunted by giant robots, why not give the former leader of the X-Men a bad-ass mowhawk!?

It’s a minor complaint I guess, but it’d be nice to see Singer get at least one thing right about the look and feel of the X-Men universe. If I can’t get Wolverine in some yellow spandex and a mask, or a Rogue that flies and isn’t Anna Paquin, the least you can do is give me Mohawk Storm. Alas, I’ll have to settle for Jack Frost from Rise of the Guardians apparently.

As for the costume, I’m confused. Of course this is just a production photo, but still – what is that material? It looks like faded black denim and microsuede! I wasn’t the biggest fan of the generic black leather suits from the first three X-Men films, but at least they felt semi-practical. I’m at a loss for what Berry’s even wearing in this picture. Put Storm in full punk rock regalia, give her a bitchin’ mohawk, and let her destroy Sentinels with sweet-ass bolts of lightning, dammit!

X-Men: Days of Future Past will feature an impressive ensemble that includes Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, James McAvoy, Jennifer Lawrence, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, Anna Paquin, Ellen Page, Shawn Ashmore, Peter Dinklage, Omar Sy, Daniel Cudmore, Adan Canto, Fan Bingbing, and Boo Boo Stewart.

  1. i have a feeling this is going to be a great film. Continuity aside, they can only improve on first class by mashing the timeline from the first 3 films. (enjoyed the article thanks)
