We’ve seen our share of scale models created by fans over the years, but never anything quite like this.
While not built by fans, this model of an X-Wing from the Star Wars universe built by LEGO is full-size—meaning yes, you can sit inside of it (and will have the opportunity to; more details later). Though sadly, it does not fly.
The model was made using an astonishing 5,335,200 LEGO bricks. At first glance at the above image it looks like it’s made using a few larger LEGOs and some other parts, but as you get a closer peek, you see just how insane the structure really is.
Check out more images of the full size LEGO X-Wing below now!
The model was built in celebration of the upcoming LEGO Star Wars animated series on Cartoon Network, The Yoda Chronicles, which is set to premiere on May 29th. It was initially constructed at the Lego Model Shop in Kladno, Czech Republic, and then transported by boat to New York City, where you can see it right now in Time Square. After a few days there, it will be heading to the Legoland California Resort for the rest of the year. If you’re able to check it out in person, apparently you’ll be able to also sit in it.
This bad boy even lights up and makes X-Wing sounds, like your favorite toys as a kid might have. You can watch a video of these things in action over at Gizmodo, where you’ll also find many more images!
This is now the new king of models, but let us not forget, a full-size Millennium Falcon is also under construction.
