Rumor Patrol: WB Offers Christian Bale A $60 Million Reason To Play Batman Again

The Dark Knight Rises: Batman

We’ve all heard that the Batman vs. Superman script was calling for a Batman/Bruce Wayne that is older and more experienced. A shortlist of actors which included names like Josh Brolin and Joe Manganiello, or even the fan requested Jon Hamm, would certainly fit the bill. Now a new report says that Warner Brothers is offering a large sum of money to Christian Bale to reprise his role Batman/Bruce Wayne.

The report comes from The Sun, so it’s best that we consider this a rumor, and tread lightly. It mentions that WB is offering Bale up to 40 million British pounds to reprise the role of the Caped Crusader. That means 40 million British pounds equates to $60 million dollars.

While this is a rumor, WB putting the offer out on the table makes a great deal of sense. Bale revived the Batman character, which ended up being a widely successful trilogy. He also fits the profile of being older and more experienced, thanks in part to Christopher Nolan establishing the character. However, Nolan did say that his Batman did not fit in WB’s plans for a Justice League movie. In fact any mention of any other DC character outside the Batman universe was not seen or heard of – unless you count the Robin nod.

Having Bale as the Batman also does away with having to go through the process of creating an origins story. While we would probably never get one, it makes a lot of sense to have a Batman that we already know and love, instead of trying to establish a new one without the origins story.

So what do you think? If Robert Downey Jr. can be paid $50 million just for The Avengers, and Hugh Jackman can be paid $100 million for four X-Men films (also a highly questionable rumor from none other than The National Enquirer), do you think WB should pony up and pay $60 million to Bale to reprise his role?

  1. “Having Bale as the Batman also does away with having to go through the
process of creating an origins story.” Why the need for a new origin story if WB recasts Batman? The character is “Batman,” not “Christian Bale”. Personally, I’m sick of seeing new origins each time a character is recast. Hulk, Batman, Superman…not needed. If this comes down to a different actor playing Batman (in Batman vs Superman), then so be it but please no retelling of his origin?

  3. Forget Bale; I would much rather see Josh Brolin cast if they are going older-which, by all indications, they are…
