Four of the five members of the Guardians of the Galaxy have already been cast. Chris Pratt is Star Lord, Zoe Saldana is Gamora, Dave Bautista is Drax the Destroyer, and Vin Diesel is all but confirmed to voice Groot. That leaves one more role left, the one that can be considered the face of the Guardians of the Galaxy: Rocket Raccoon. Names have been thrown around, but there hasn’t been any hard evidence or even a shortlist of actors to give us an idea what Marvel Studios is looking for. So let’s skip the shortlists of actors and go straight for who the studio is actually considering.
Bradley Cooper has been reportedly offered the role of Rocket Raccoon. Of course there is no confirmation on whether or not this offer has been made or if Cooper has even accepted it.
Previous Marvel movie casting announcements haven’t exactly been on schedule. During the San Diego Comic-Con, before he was confirmed to voice Groot, Diesel said that he would make a huge casting announcement at the end of the July. Diesel was attached/confirmed to the role of Groot, last week. Director James Gunn even said at the press conference that he would make an announcement some time in July. Clearly we have passed that point.
It’s hard to say what exactly the hold up is. But there is still plenty of shooting left on the production schedule, let’s just hope that Marvel has narrowed down their field or just hope that they have already someone cast and that they are just holding out on us.
But what are your thoughts? Is Cooper a good fit for this role?
Directed by James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy is scheduled to open in theaters on August 1, 2014.
