Director: Christian Duguay
Screenwriter: B.J. Nelson
Cast: David Hewlett, Deborah Raffin, Yvan Ponton, Isabelle Mejias, Raoul Trujillo, Tom Butler, Dorothée Berryman

Rated R | 104 Minutes
Release Date: September 10, 2013 Directed by Christian Duguay (Screamers), Scanners II: The New Order is a direct-to-video sequel to David Cronenberg’s 1981 film, Scanners. Written by B.J. Nelson (Lone Wolf McQuade), the story involves a crooked politician (Yvan Ponton) who schemes to gain control of a major city by manipulating Scanners (persons born with telepathic and telekinetic abilities) to do his bidding. David Hewlett stars as David Kellum, a young veterinarian intern who discovers he is a Scanner, meaning he can read and control the minds of others and, if need be, make their heads explode. I’ll be honest, I’m not really sure why this movie exists – or what it’s even about – it just seems like the filmmakers focused on the amazing practical effects on display in Cronenberg’s film and decided to ratchet up the pulsating craniums and head explosions.

For instance, the Royal Canadian Mint has issued seven truly kick ass coins to celebrate the 75th Anniversary of Superman. The Man of Steel first appeared in Action Comics #1 in 1938 and has been one of the most popular superheroes ever since. Through the decades the character has changed many times, sometimes slightly and sometimes drastically. But in every incarnation he has been one of the most recognizable icons ever to grace the pages of a comic book. And I have to say, it’s pretty cool that Canada has decided to commemorate this American hero with his own line of coins, many of them limited in quantity.

| Video: Daniel Radcliffe Shows Off American Accent In First Clip From ‘Horns’
About a year ago we saw the first image from a new movie titled Horns, in which Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe fittingly sported an impressive set of horns on his head. The movie is currently making the festival rounds in search of a distributor, and the first official clip from the movie has been released. Horns is based on the novel of the same name from author and comic writer Joe Hill, telling the story of Ignatius Perrish (Radcliffe), the only suspect in the rape and murder of his girlfriend. Never charged, tried, or officially cleared, Ig is looked at through angry eyes from everyone around him, but he’s determined to find whoever is really responsible for the vicious crime and get revenge using the powers of his unexpected new horns. You can see the first clip from Horns below.
