It’s been three years, believe it or not, since True Detective arrived on HBO to massive critical praise. It’s actually already been two years since the not so well-received second season ended.
A third season was a large question mark for a long while now. Back at the beginning of the year, HBO president of programming Casey Bloys said ideas were being exchanged but they weren’t rushing things. Now comes word that season three is officially happening, and some details have been shared.
More on the new season’s story and who’s involved below.

Peter Sarsgaard To Play Main Villain In ‘The Magnificent Seven’ Remake As Jason Momoa Departs
|
 |

MGM has found their primary villain for the upcoming remake of The Magnificent Seven, which already features a great cast consisting of Denzel Washington (Glory, American Gangster), Ethan Hawke (Before Sunset, Boyhood), Chris Pratt (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jurassic World), Vincent D’Onofrio (Men In Black, Daredevil), Wagner Moura (Elysium, Elite Squad), Haley Bennett (Marley & Me, The Equalizer), and Matt Bomer (White Collar, Magic Mike).
The studio has chosen Peter Sarsgaard to be the film’s biggest bad guy, a robber baron named Bartholomew Bogue. But while they’ve found their primary antagonist, the movie is also losing a villain. Game of Thrones and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice star Jason Momoa was also recently reported to be in negotiations for a role, but now it’s being said that the actor is no longer attached to the project. Whether his duties playing Aquaman conflicted with the shooting schedule, he simply decided he didn’t want the role, or something else caused the departure is not known for sure at the moment.

Possible ‘True Detective’ Season 2 Casting and Story Details Revealed

Since I don’t have HBO I wasn’t able to catch their latest hit original series True Detective during its eight-episode first season run that began last January. But once it hit home video I was finally able to pick up the box set and binge watch every single hour, and by the end I was convinced I had just seen the best season of a television crime series since the first episode of the CBS classic Wiseguy in 1987. Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson both turned in some of the finest performances of their respective careers, aided immeasurably by the writing of creator Nic Pizzolatto and Cary Joji Fukunaga‘s atmospheric direction.
Now some possible casting and story details have surfaced, and can be read below if you’re all caught up and anxious for info on the sophomore season.

‘True Detective’ and Its ‘The King in Yellow’ Mythology (Video)
|
 |

HBO’s crime drama True Detective has truly become the show to watch. Aside from the fine acting and great directing – like for this standout 6-minute single-take tracking shot, we’re learning more now about the mythology behind the main storyline. The show centers on two homicide detectives, played by Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson, who are telling their story of how they tracked a ritualistic serial killer seventeen years prior.
In the second episode, the detectives find the journal belonging to murder victim Dora Lange, who wrote about the powerful “The Yellow King.” As it turns out, The Yellow King is inspired by the 1895 anthology of weird tales of horror and madness by Robert W. Chambers called The King in Yellow. In some behind-the-scenes videos for last night’s episode, “The Secret Fate of All Life,” show creator and writer Nic Pizzolatto talks about how this literary reference is part of the mythology for True Detective. You can watch the videos here below.
