Kickstarters abound! I seem to always preface my articles about them with some form of astonishment at how they seem to connect writers and artists to their fans in a much more intimate way – well not this time. This time, I work under the assumption that you know of Blake Northcott, be it through Facebook, Twitter, or what have you. This young lady is taking the comic-loving world by storm! And you are being given a chance here to help her success continue with a Kickstarter for her next book, Assault Or Attrition.
Now, if you aren’t familiar with this Canadian beauty and her nerd-tastic stories, then you are missing out. Her last book, Arena Mode, was a Mark Millar-endorsed project. Not only that, it was the most-funded project in Kickstarter’s ‘Publishing: Fiction’ category for 2013. And this new Kickstarter could easily surpass even that, since she has loads of artists from Marvel, DC, and Image Comics working on the interior art for her upcoming book! We are talking about Mark McKenna, Dave Johnson, Dan Panosian, and many others!
Here’s what Blake has to say about Dan:
“Dan (Panosian) has such a gift for design. It’s one thing to see him bring The X-Men or some other iconic heroes to life, but when he’s creating his own unique characters it’s really amazing. He provided some art for my previous novel ‘Arena Mode‘, and I am so honored that he’s lending his talents to ‘Assault or Attrition’.” Dan Panosian has worked on dozens of titles, including X-Men, Spawn, Danger Girl, and The Green Lantern. His current project is John Tiffany, a European graphic novel. You can see more of his work at his Deviant Art page.
Blake was even kind enough to include one of Dan’s exclusive art pieces from the upcoming book!
And that’s just one of the great artists she has helping with this book! The story itself is kind of a science fiction and superhero mashup set in a dystopian future. This novel is the sequel to Arena Mode, which was fully funded in the first two days, might I add. Blake has a lot of success with her writing in the past; she’s been published since she was 11 so it’s a pretty good guess that she’s good at what she does. Her first series Vs. Reality was #1 on several different Amazon.com lists since the very beginning of the series. So cruise on over and check this puppy out, I think you’ll find a lot of things to like!
Oh and make sure to check out the rewards too! I am especially happy with the way she named the packages after comic collectives, like the Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. pack or the Justice League pack. Seriously, you can get a digital copy of the book at the ten dollar level and a hard copy starting at the twenty-five dollar mark. So many goodies to choose from and with an easily attainable goal, it’s almost guaranteed to be a sure thing! Since I’m writing this before the Kickstarter officially launches, I’m getting to see but a small part of what’s coming. I insist you check out her new fundraiser and I encourage you to read her other works, too. Any comic or sci-fi fan will love them. So throw your hat into her ring and lets get this next book funded so I can read it!
