Tom Cruise is already shooting Mission: Impossible 5, but its director, Christopher McQuarrie, has yet to find the film’s antagonist. While little is known about the plot, we are learning that Paramount has offered the role of the villain to Sean Harris, according to Deadline.
He may not have the household name status yet, but you have probably seen him in Prometheus, The Borgias, 24 Hour Party People, and Red Riding Trilogy.
Should Harris take the role he will be joined by M:I alum Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, and Ving Rhames, and newcomers Alec Baldwin and Rebecca Ferguson.
Hopefully Harris’ villain will be an upgrade from the previous bad guys we’ve seen in the Mission: Impossible film franchise. Aside from Philip Seymour Hoffman, the M:I villains have been less than memorable.
We still don’t know much about the film itself, so we will definitely learn more about it once the cast is finalized. I feel that Tom Cruise is still a lucrative star and is long overdue for a big hit on his resume. Yes, Edge Of Tomorrow was one of the most original films last Summer, but the film just didn’t meet box office expectations.
Mission: Impossible 5 opens in theaters on December 25, 2015.
