You better not shout, you better not cry, you better not pout, I’m telling you why, Batman is going to scream at you, tie you up, and leave you for the GCPD to find you. The good news, though, is that unless you’re Rudolph the Red-Nosed Hitman or some other nefarious being, you’re probably good on the tying up by Batman front. But it is the holidays, and even Batman likes to receive and give gifts on occasion, so in honor of Batty Claus, I’ve curated this fine list of fine gifts for Batman lovers on your holiday list. Enjoy, and give! It’s the best part of the season!
Batman 75th Anniversary Box Set – The best way I could suggest this is to a comic book reader who has a list of people they’re buying for that includes someone who has never read a Batman comic, or for someone who just likes boxed sets. Included in this comic are usually the go to Batman stories for new readers including Hush, The Dark Knight Returns, and Batman: Court of Owls. Sure, it’s a nice look at some of the history of Batman while giving you something modern to start, but that really still goes back to the new reader thing. So yes, got someone on your list that wants to start reading comics? This is perfect.
Batman: A Celebration of 75 Years – This, on the other hand, is a collection of some of the most heralded Batman stories in a very cool hardcover collection. It’s a great presentation and would be a great gift for any Batman fan that’s patient enough to wait for the holidays to come to town (like myself). Additionally, it’s a great companion piece to…
The Joker: A Celebration of 75 Years – Which is essentially the same deal as the listed above hardcover, but it focuses its attention on The Batman’s greatest villain The Joker. If you’ve never read “5 Way Revenge” or “Laughing Fish,” this is the way to do it. Also, speaking of the Joker…
The World According To The Joker – I have yet to get my hands on this, but it seems like a very strange little book that is like The Joker’s journal. It features character breakdowns, as well as looks at costumes, and weaponry. Pretty cool little strange book.
Batman ’66 – One of the best things about 2014, other than the 75th anniversary of Batman, we got the long, long, long awaited release of the 1960’s Batman series on home video in both DVD and Blu-ray format. I’ve been so freaking excited about this happening inevitably for ages, and chances are someone in your life is just excited, so I’ve compiled a small group of products released in honor of parent companies working through all of their issues.
Batman’66 Complete Series Blu-ray Boxed Set – Exactly what it says. One of the greatest TV shows of all time.
Batman ’66 Vol. 1, 2, 3 by Jeff Parker and Various – This comic book was released right when it was announced that the show was getting a new product line, as well as a DVD release. It’s campy, hilarious, and all around a lot of fun. A perfect companion gift to the above gift.
Batman ’66 Movie Blu-ray – This isn’t new or anything, but you might as well make it a complete set! This covers a person on your holiday list totally with an awesome Batman ’66 theme! Who could ask for anything more!
BONUS ’66 gifts!! – DC’s Website has a HOST of other Batman ’66 merchandise for those still suffering from/rejoicing in Batmania including t-shirts, belts, toys, and even underwear!
Batman Volume 4: Year Zero – Secret City and Volume 5: Year Zero – Dark City – Zero Year is the New 52 version of Batman’s first year showing his training and first cases. It’s super cool and if you or someone you love has gotten behind, this is the way to catch up. The new story has just started kicking off over the past couple of months, so this is what you want to read.
Batman Eternal Volume 1 – One of the most praised storylines to go along what’s happening in Gotham City is Batman Eternal. This comic book collection just got released, so if someone has been interested in this, or Batman in general, it makes a great gift.
Batman 75th Anniversary Phone Cases – Phones make an excellent gift for the holidays, and DC has several phone cases that you should check out! Stocking stuffers!
DC Collectibles Batman Black and White: Zombie Batman Statue – Based on the Neal Adams art and short story from Batman: Black & White #1.
