‘Inside Out’ Trailer: Pixar’s Latest Has Colorful Emotional Outbursts

Pixar's Inside Out (2015)

The first trailer for Pixar’s Inside Out has been released and it’s really more of an announcement trailer to remind us that the animation studio still exists. 2014 was the first year that Pixar had not released a film, but 2015 will be the first that we see two from the studio — Inside Out first, which will be then followed by The Good Dinosaur a few months later.

Pete Docter‘s latest film will venture into our minds, and turn our emotions into characters. We sort of got a tease as to how these emotions interact with each other in the teaser trailer, but this new trailer – which is more of a fully designed clip of what was shown at last year’s D23 Expo – gives us a better look at how the character’s emotions interact with each other, and how they try to interpret what everyone else is trying to say. Hit the jump to see the full trailer.

The trailer also reveals that no two humans are alike. While humans share the same emotions, the emotional HQ’s are different. Riley has a bright and sparkly HQ, which reflects her personality. Her mother has a warm and inviting HQ, with the emotional console resembling something you might see on a morning talk show like The View. Even the emotional characters look like they are panelists on The View. However, Riley’s father has a console that resembles a mission control. The emotional characters all have mustaches, and share the same passion for sports.

Directed by Pete Docter, Inside Out features the voice talents of Amy Poehler, Bill Hader, Lewis Black, Mindy Kaling, and Phyllis Smith. It opens June 19, 2015.

Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
