We knew that Paul Feig was working on a female-led Ghostbustersreboot from a script by Katie Dippold and that Melissa McCarthy was in early talks to lead the cast. And while there was a lot of speculation as to which actresses would be filling out the remaining roles, we now finally know who you gonna call!
Current Saturday Night Live cast members Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, as well as SNL alum Kristin Wiig are in negotiations to join McCarthy in the reboot, according to THR, who added that the film is looking to shoot this Summer in New York.
Both Wiig and McCarthy starred in Feig’s Bridesmaids (2011), and the new Ghostbusters will mark McCarthy’s fourth time around with the director (she also starred in 2013’s The Heat and just finished work on his new film Spy). The Emmy-nominated McKinnon has been part of SNL since 2012, while Jones, who can be seen now in Chris Rock’s Top Five, joined the cast of SNL early last year. While negotiations are currently ongoing, THR reports that the studio expects the four actresses to sign on as the ghostbusting paranormal investigators.
Personally, I think this is excellent cast, as all of the actresses are great at comedy and have strong on-screen presence. Feig knows how to make comedy with a heart and has experience directing half these women, so as long as they nail the script, it look like this third Ghostbusters film has the potential to be a major hit.
