It’s easy to see why a reboot of a film like Ghostbusters could be met with such resistance. But that resistance has to come from the right place, otherwise it will sound like white noise. Now that we live in such a progressive period of time, we are more likely to see changes that would fuel such a resistance, and it’s no surprise that we are seeing that in Paul Feig‘s reboot, Ghostbusters.

The 1984 original film is such a classic film for many of us who have either lived during that time or have watched it on home video and learned of its existence through the two animated series. There is also the 1989 sequel, as well as board games, comic books, and video games, all of it based on the success of the franchise. Until now, there really hasn’t been any changes to the franchise, and as such there will be those who will probably have a strong attachment to the two films they are very familiar with. Which brings me back to the idea of resistance. No matter how you spin it, no matter how great it is, no matter how funny, there will be those who will not welcome this film with open arms. And that is the wrong way to approach it. The new Ghostbusters film, while flawed, is funny — very funny. It is one of those rare reboot comedies that’s sharp and clever, and isn’t afraid to make fun of itself or acknowledge some of those critics who may have been vocal about not wanting to see the film since it was first announced. Ghostbusters Stars Leslie Jones, Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, and Kate McKinnon

It still surprises me that we live in a time where an all-female Ghostbusters film is deemed unacceptable by some. Last time I checked, it was 2015. Whatever the reasons why the haters say what they are saying about the new Ghostbusters, the film lead by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones is still happening. While it is not surprising to see the vitriol reactions for the reboot (not all of it on the idea of an all-female Ghostbusters) on social media, McCarthy has stepped up to show just how powerful women can be, and not only the female performing talent, but the talent behind the stunts, writing, editing, makeup, costumes, casting, and much much more.

Check out the actress’ latest Instagram post below, which includes a photo of the female cast and crew members of the upcoming film with a message.

Spy Melissa McCarthy

We knew that Paul Feig was working on a female-led Ghostbusters reboot from a script by Katie Dippold and that Melissa McCarthy was in early talks to lead the cast. And while there was a lot of speculation as to which actresses would be filling out the remaining roles, we now finally know who you gonna call!

Current Saturday Night Live cast members Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, as well as SNL alum Kristin Wiig are in negotiations to join McCarthy in the reboot, according to THR, who added that the film is looking to shoot this Summer in New York.

Ghostbusters 3 Header

For as long as we’ve known about Ghostbusters 3, the plan was to have old fan favorite Ghostbusters Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson, and, if they could find a way to lure him back, Bill Murray, in small cameo roles while a group of new actors stepped into the main roles. Sadly Ramis passed away, Murray seemingly never wanted anything to do with it, and the movie constantly struggled to find its way.

This week it was confirmed that Bridesmaids and The Heat director Paul Feig would be making the movie, with Katie Dippold writing the screenplay. And now, as it turns out, we find out that their plan is not to make a sequel that continues the stories we’ve been told and includes appearances from the older Ghostbusters, but instead to fully reboot the franchise entirely.
