Tonight sees the season finale of Marvel‘s Agent Carter, one of my favorite shows on television! Marvel has release two sneak peek clips from this eighth and final episode of the first season, titled “Valediction,” which marks Howard Starks return and the completion of Agent Carter’s mission.

The first clip includes the return of Howard Stark (Dominic Cooper), who’s able to bypass security so that he and Jarvis can easily walk right into the Strategic Scientific Reserve (SSR) offices; the second clip involves a massacre at the movies courtesy of Doctor Fennhoff that Agent Carter (Hayley Atwell) and her fellow SSR agents go to investigate.

This first season of Agent Carter saw Hayley Atwell reprise her role as SSR Agent Peggy Carter from the first Captain America film, 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, set mostly in 1942 during World World II. The 8-episode TV mini-series, which is considered part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is set in 1946 after the British Agent Carter has returned from the war and is mainly on desk duty in the United States, as seemingly fit for a lady at that time. While her male colleagues go out in the field and do hard-hitting investigative and often dangerous work, she is relegated to filing, taking lunch orders, and light day-time assignments. Frustrated with her downgraded position (especially after all of her ass-kicking in Captain America!), Peggy takes it upon herself to secretly help Howard Stark (Tony Stark’s father), who’s been framed for providing deadly weapons to the enemy. With the help of Stark’s butler Edwin Jarvis (James D’Arcy), Peggy seeks to find the real responsible parties, dispose of the weapons, and clear Stark’s name. During her investigation, she discovers something called Leviathan — the mystery of Leviathan and what its plans are is a running thread throughout the season (in the comics, it’s a HYDRA-like organization).

I can’t stress enough how much I love this show, how smart, clever, and well-made it is. Throw in there a powerful female lead, and it’s a winner for sure. There’s a lot going on in each episode, so much so that repeat viewings are not only warranted but welcomed and highly enjoyable. I hope to see more Agent Carter in the future.
