There are serious spoilers here! If you have not watched Vikings Episode 3.3 “Warrior’s Fate” or Episode 3.4 “Scarred,” what are you waiting for?
Last week on Vikings, our favorite barbarians went after Princess Kwenthrith’s (Amy Bailey) brother’s half of the troops, after they fled from scary Ragnar (Travis Fimmel). Torstein (Jefferson Hall), got to die with honor as the sacrifice, thanks to Rollo (Clive Standen) dragging him up a mountain. He was the bravest facing those soldiers. “I will go first.” Such are the harsh realities of battle.
Harbard the Wanderer (Kevin Durand) was received with mixed feelings. Queen Aslaug (Alyssa Sutherland) was enamored after he took away Ivar’s pain with his words. Siggy (Jessalyn Gilsig) is suspicious, and seeks out the Seer (John Kavanagh) for advice. Poor Porunn (Gaia Weiss). Ragnar lets loose on Bjorn (Alexander Ludwig) once he finds out she is with child.
Vikings 3.4 “Scarred” review: Fascinating – every single minute was mesmerizing. And not because of all the sex (although that didn’t hurt). This was like a mid-season cliffhanger episode, if not a season finale. Harbard performs another miracle with baby Ivar the Boneless, to Aslaug’s extra special gratitude. You don’t have to be a seer to know how she repaid that debt. Still, Siggy feels fear and mistrust. “Are you a god?” she whispers. “I wish,” says Harbard, “for who would not wish for such a thing?” Turns out she was right to feel fear. Poor heroic Siggy! I’m sure Rollo is going to lose his mind, considering how he left things off with her.
Princess Looney Tunes does something gross to heal Ragnar’s wounds. He warns her of her weak brother. Maybe she took him a teeny bit too seriously. Watch the mass cup throwing at the end.
Lagertha is clear on her responsibilities, as much as King Ecbert (Linus Roache) wants her to stay, she is anxious to get back to her non-existent earldom. And Earl Kalf (Ben Robson) has a big allied surprise for the former earl. Athelstan is torn. He admits his reciprocated love for Judith, but…..her husband came back. So that probably won’t work out. Plus… how can he leave the best bromance ever? Ragnelstan forever!
Ragnar and Ecbert have this awesome conversation as they sit kingly together:
Ragnar: “Do you think you’re a good man?”
Ecbert: (thinking) “Yes I think so. Are you a good man?”
Ragnar: “Yes… I think so. Are you corrupt?”
Ecbert: “Oh yes…are you?”
Ragnar: (smiling) “Uh huh.”
Just a reminder – the end of this episode was bananas.
