Liam Neeson Wanted For Narco Sub

The long-gestating action thriller Narco Sub finally has a director, and Fox is already setting their sights on a star to lead the film.

After Tony Scott, Doug Liman, and Antoine Fuqua passed on the opportunity to direct the naval film, Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones) has signed on to helm the film, and now he and Fox are eyeing Liam Neeson to star in the film. Hit the jump for more.

According to The Wrap, the studio has been keen on getting Neeson to lead the film since September, but couldn’t do it until they locked a director. Now that Kirk is on board, Fox can get moving on bringing Neeson in.

Narco Sub will center on a disgraced Naval officer forced by a Ecuadorian drug lord to navigate a narco sub past the US Coast Guard.

The screenplay was penned by David Guggenheim, who previously wrote the script for Safe House and has also worked on the scripts for the long planned Uncharted movie and Bad Boys 3. The movie is being produced by Ridley Scott and Simon Kinberg, with Aditya Sood and Elishia Holmes executive producing.

Neeson most recently appeared in Run All Night, and has a role in Seth MacFarlane’s Ted 2, A Monster Calls, and Martin Scorsese’s Silence. Should Neeson sign on, Narco Sub could be one of his last action films as the actor has gone on the record saying he will retire from the genre in about two years.

Before his passing, Tony Scott (Top Gun, True Romance) was on board as director of the film. After his tragic passing, the film floated around coming across directors like Doug Liman (Edge of Tomorrow, The Bourne Identity), Joe Carnahan (The Grey, The A-Team), and Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer).

As for Kirk, he is best known for directing episodes of HBO’s Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. He has also worked on episodes of Luther and Showtime’s The Tudors and Dexter, among many others.
