Two more positions have been filled today for the very highly anticipated, yet still untitled spinoff to The CW’s Arrow and The Flash
TV newcomer Ciara Renee will pay the role of Hawkgirl, while Arthur Darvill (Rory from Doctor Who!!!) will portray Rip Hunter. They join already announced Brandon Routh (The Atom), Wentworth Miller (Captain Cold), Dominic Purcell (Heatwave), Victor Garber (Dr. Martin Stein), and Caity Lotz (not known yet). The spinoff is intended as a midseason replacement next year.
Although Ciara Renee only has a couple of television guest spots under her belt, she honed her acting chops on Broadway with roles in Pippin and Big Fish. Her character, Kendra Saunders aka Hawkgirl, is a woman who was reincarnated (more than once), and who can sprout wings out of her warrior back when under attack.
British actor Arthur Darvill’s work includes Doctor Who and Broadchurch. His charming character, Rip Hunter, can travel through time. Perhaps that is how we can get Sarah back, since her character on the show has still not been revealed. That would be a great plot. I should write for the show.
With the successes of Arrow and The Flash, and the same minds of Greg Berlanti, Andrew Kreisberg, and Marc Guggenheim steering the ship, I’ve no doubt that the spinoff will also be a success, and I cannot wait to watch it. Another plus – spinoff to parent show crossovers!
For now, we all have to be satisfied with crumbs they throw at us, until it airs.
Greg Berlanti told Entertainment Weekly:
“For me, it honors all of the great team up movies, whether it’s ‘Ocean’s Eleven’ or whether it’s the superhero books,” “That’s what it’s about. If you go back to the old westerns, there would be The Lone Gunman, but there would also be ‘The Magnificent Seven.’ It’s very much in the spirit of those kinds of movies and shows.”
It’s that very same philosophy that makes Arrow and The Flash so great. You can’t be a hero without a strong team to back you up.
The Flash airs Tuesday nights at 8pm and Arrow airs Wednesday nights at 8pm on The CW.
