Furious 7 starring Vin Diesel and Kurt Russell

Furious 7 his theaters this Friday, and as with all film franchises like this, talks of a sequel have already started. Given that Justin Lin is off directing the third Star Trek film, and James Wan is heading back to horror by directing The Conjuring 2, plus the tragic passing of Paul Walker, where Fast and Furious 8 goes from here is unknown.

]However, Vin Diesel was on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night to help promote the film, and during the interview he spoke candidly about locations and characters that may appear in the sequel. Minor spoilers follow after the jump.

So it turns out that Kurt Russell‘s character doesn’t die in the film, a fact that Diesel confirms in the video below. The actor added that he envisions these films as trilogies, so Russell was an important addition to the cast as his character will most likely continue to act as the black ops handler to Toretto.

Fast and Furious is known for its prime locations, from Los Angeles and Miami to Tokyo and Rio de Janeiro, Toretto and his crew have traveled the world. Fast and Furious 6 took place in London before ending up back home in Los Angeles. In Furious 7, we get to see Diesel and Walker race across three buildings in Abu Dhabi. During the interview, the actor said he would like the franchise to head to New York City. It sounds like fun, but how exactly the racing scenes would be done in a city as crowded as New York is a completely different question. But I’m sure it would be fun to watch.

Fast and Furious 8 has yet-to-be confirmed. Normally a sequel confirmation is contingent on how a previous film in the franchise performs at the box office, but this is a Fast and Furious film we are taking about, and Furious 7 is on track to earn $100 million plus this Easter weekend. So a sequel confirmation could come as soon as when the official numbers are posted.

Should the sequel be confirmed, they shouldn’t have any trouble finding someone to fill the villain role, as Helen Mirren already threw her name into the hat.

So what do you think? Would you like to see Dominic Toretto and his team race around the streets of New York?
