Conan/Red Sonja #3 takes a big swerve from the first two issues of this series, and it’s a total surprise for the reader. We’re used to the past two issues that skipped around during different times of the lives of Conan and Red Sonja, and it was great and fun, but now that the narrative has changed, is it still good? Let me tell you what I think…
Writers Gail Simone and Jim Zub take the series in a WHOLE different direction this issue, and it totally pulls the rug out from under the reader as far as where the series was, I thought, going. This issue reveals the enemy of the series and pits the two stars of the book against each other! In past issues, this has been a great team-up story; it’s been a book about two friends, who come very close to crossing the line of friendship into romance, as they team up to try and stop something that’s threatening their world, but with this issue, the two are forced to turn on each other, and that leads to a fantastic dynamic and is very entertaining.
Hey! It’s Randy Green everybody! Green takes up art duties with this issue, and he’s awesome as always. Not only that, but he gels really well with the artist of the first two issues, Dan Panosian. He keeps the look and feel of the book the same, while he definitely putting his own spin on it, which is fantastic. I’ve always been a fan of Randy Green, and to see him draw two of my favorite characters is an absolute treat. You’re going to love what he does with the art here.
If you liked the first two issues, you’ll love this issue’s shocking twists and turns, and the way that it plays out. If you STILL haven’t picked up this series, I really don’t know what you’re waiting for. This is not a “wait for the trade” book. This is a “have to get it every month” series without a doubt. Now go grab it!
