The movie is called Wolfcop. Seriously, right now, you know you’re either a) going to love it and consider it a classic, or b) thinking “that’s the dumbest thing I ever heard.” If B, go read something else, no hard feelings. But if A, then click on Netflix and prepare to rock out with your… well, you get it. After all this is the first werewolf movie I remember to show genitalia transformation. Even American Werewolf in London didn’t cross that line!

Wolfcop is the brainchild of writer/director Lowell Dean who got $1 million from a Canadian film contest to make his move. The story, as if a movie called Wolfcop needs one, centers around the small town of Woodhaven and alcoholic cop Lou Garou (Leo Fafard). Lou is a trainwreck whose only upside is a flirty relationship with the hot local bartender Jess (Sarah Lind). When hunting season starts early and a mayoral candidate goes missing, the search ends with Lou interrupting a satanic looking ritual and ending up knocked out. He wakes up with the mark of the beast carved into his body and after a few too many shots of Jack, he stumbled into the bar bathroom and becomes WOLFCOP! Along with his comedy sidekick Wiley (Jonathan Cherry), Lou goes about cleaning up Woodhaven of its criminals and drug dealers, all-the-while discovering a sinister plot involving Buffy-level villains.

Combining the horror-comedy elements of Tucker & Dale and the gore of Evil Dead, Wolfcop seems destined for cult status and midnight movies. In fact, the only thing I can even think of as a negative, is that at times it appears that Dean is literally trying to make a cult movie instead of simply a good movie. But that’s easily forgiven. After all, how many movies have a full blown Werewolf on woman sex scene; “what big teeth you have…” Please stay through the credits as the rap song Wolfcop by Evil Ebenezer & Factor is hilariously awesome. Dean is already planning a Wolfcop II, due out in 2016.

Wolfcop is currently streaming on Netflix (free with monthly subscription) and is also available on Amazon Instant Video for $3.99 rental.
