Suicide Squad

Social media has been a great way to reach out to fans and followers. Vin Diesel and Ryan Reynolds make great use of the platform to help promote their films. Those following director David Ayer may have noticed that he has been posting set photos and props from his upcoming DC film Suicide Squad.

But last night, he posted one of the biggest teases, a cast photo with Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jai Courtney, Cara Delevingne, Joel Kinnaman, Viola Davis, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, and new additions Adam Beach (Law and Order: SVU, Flags of Our Fathers), Jim Parrack (Fury, True Blood), and Ike Barinholtz (The Mindy Project, Eastbound and Down) at a read-through. Jared Leto is notably absent from the photo, but we’ve already seen his transformation in tweets. Find out who Beach, Parrack, and Barinholtz are playing and check out the new photo after the jump.

Ayer dropped the latest reveal on his Twitter, we will have a larger version of the image below.

Parrack – the man in the hat – will be playing Deathstroke. Joe Manganiello was one of the frontrunners to play the deadly mercenary, and it is unclear why he didn’t get the role, but with filming expected to begin soon, it looks like they needed to fill the role fast. Comedian Barinholtz will play Dr. Hugo Strange, while Beach is rumored to play Ravan.

It is unclear as to why Leto is not in the photo. We have seen him lose the long locks of hair and trade it in for something shorter and sleeker. Our best guess is that he will get his own reveal in full costume somewhere down the line of the promotional campaign.

But the adding Hugo Strange is interesting. We’ve seen Ayer hint that the film could possibly take place in Arkham Asylum, and the addition of Strange seems to all but confirm that the film takes place in the famed psychiatric prison for criminals connected to Batman.

Previous reports say that the film takes place between the events of Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Which would make some sense from a film chronological standpoint, and help act as a connective thread to Dawn of Justice and eventually the solo Batman film.

So what do you think about the final cast?

Suicide Squad opens in theaters on August 5, 2016.
