This weekend will be about Star Wars with Star Wars Celebration taking place over at the Anaheim Convention Center, and all eyes will be on the big conversation between J.J. Abrams and Kathleen Kennedy when it streams live on the Internet. So Zack Snyder and WB might be planning to steal some of their thunder by revealing some footage from Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, a couple of days in advance of the big screen trailer debut.
It was first reported that the trailer would be attached to showings of Mad Max: Fury Road, which opens in theaters on May 15, but a new rumor says that not only will we be seeing footage this week, but we could also be seeing the trailer as early as April 20. Hit the jump for more.
Umberto from Latino Review dropped the news on his Instagram today, with the caption (we have the embed below just in cast you couldn’t see the image):
RT! HUGE #BatmanvSuperman RUMOR! Zack Snyder at 9am on Thursday, an hour before the start of Star Wars celebration will tweet the first five seconds of the new #BatmanvSupermanDawnofJustice trailer on his Twitter. You will then be able to sign up to view the full trailer in a theater on Monday April 20th. Also, the trailer will in fact be in front of prints of #AVENGERS #AGEOFULTRON! BOOM! #dc #marvel
Considering how the internet tends to eat any footage up, five seconds is a huge gift. As you can see, the footage can be seen on Twitter Thursday at 9am. After that a signup system will launch where fans will able to sign up to see the trailer early in theaters on April 20. This is nothing new really, as signing up to see early footage on the big screen has become commonplace for films of this size.
What exactly we will see remains in question. The film has already completed principal photography, and we’ve seen hints that it could be based on the Dark Knight Returns storyline. But as to why we would see a major WB/DC movie trailer attached to a Marvel one, that seems a bit odd. Seeing that Avengers: Age of Ultron debuts overseas on April 22nd, it does make some sense.
Directed by Zack Snyder, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stars Henry Cavill, Ben Affleck, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Jesse Eisenberg, Gal Gadot, Diane Lane, Jeremy Irons, and Jason Momoa. It opens on March 25, 2016.
