Matthew Vaughn‘s Kingsman: The Secret Service is one of the sleeper hits of 2015. Because the film was scheduled for release in February, it could have been a box office bomb. Instead it has gone on to gross $401 million worldwide. So obviously, a sequel was in order.

According to a report from The Wrap, there are unconfirmed rumors that Fox is working on making that happen.

The studio has yet to make an official announcement, but the Hollywood Trade says there will be a Kingsman sequel. There is no word yet on what the film could be about. Vaughn has expressed an interest in revealing the American Branch of the Kingsman, but that also has yet to be confirmed.

Since this is all unverified, there is no telling when Fox would want to get started on the film. You’d think that since the film was such a huge success that the studio would give it the green light almost immediately, but they haven’t. While an official announcement has yet to be made, Vaughn’s schedule may be tied up. He will be directing an adaptation of Flash Gordon, using a script written by J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay. Depending on what happens, it’s possible that Fox could ask Vaughn to direct both films. No doubt he will at least be asked to consult on the sequel if he decides not to come back. Given his track record, he may not come back. He didn’t return to direct Kick-Ass and X-Men: First Class, but he did lay the groundwork for their subsequent sequels.

In the first Kingsman, Colin Firth played Harry Hart, a suave master spy of an older generation, who taught the art of espionage to Eggsy (Taron Egerton). The film was reminiscent of the old school James Bond films with a hint of comic book-esque action.
