Game Of Thrones
Episode 5.1 “The Wars to Come”
Directed by Michael Slovis
Written by David Benioff & D.B. Weiss
Starring Emilia Clarke, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Lena Headey, Aidan Gillen, Kit Harington, Diana Rigg, Natalie Dormer, Maisie Williams, Sophie Turner
HBO
Air date: Sunday, April 13, 2015, 9pm

Game Of Thrones, one of the most highly anticipated television shows of the year, made its return on Sunday night. But Episode 5.1 “The Wars to Come” felt more like a “where are they now” installment that could have been summed up with a 5-minute preview video instead of an hour-long episode that moves the story forward.

For this Season 5 debut we catch up with most of the cast of Season 4 — those who made it through the Season 4 finale, that is. In that finale, we saw Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) finally use her magic coin and utter the words “Valar morghulis” (All men must die) to gain passage to the free city of Braavos, where we know she will start her new life. Unfortunately, this first episode doesn’t feature her at all — we’ll have to wait for 5.2 to pick up on her story.

‘Spider-Man’ Reboot To Focus On High School Peter Parker

Spider-Man Header Image

In February, Sony announced that it would share Spider-Man with their rivals, Marvel Studios. Though Sony would still retain the rights and creative control, it meant that the webslinger could be seen alongside heroes like Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, etc. The deal also says that Marvel won’t pay Sony anything to use the character in their cinematic universe, such as The Avengers movies or Captain America: Civil War, and neither Sony nor Marvel will take a cut of the other studios’ projects involving Spider-Man.

It is expected that Spider-Man may make his MCU debut in Captain America: Civil War. If that is the plan, then casting should be underway since the Captain America sequel is expected to begin filming as soon as the Avengers: Age of Ultron press tour is complete. Dylan O’Brien and Logan Lerman were rumored to be in the running at one point in time, and it was even reported that the reboot may have Miles Morales instead of Peter Parker. But Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige confirms that the new Spider-Man reboot will focus on Parker and that it won’t be an origins story.

The Last Man on Earth The Do Over

The Last Man on Earth
Season 1 Episode 9: “The Do-Over” & Episode 10 “Pranks For Nothing”

FOX
Air Date: Sunday, April 12th, 2015, 9:00pm

Congratulations to The Last Man On Earth returning for Season 2! Let’s see what Phil Miller (Will Forte) and the gang have been up to, before we get into the review for this week’s doubleheader, 1.9 “The Do-Over” and 1.10 “Pranks For Nothing.”

Two weeks ago, during The Last Man On Earth’s 1.7 “She Drives Me Crazy” and 1.8 “Mooovin’In,” Phil had made some progress with Melissa (January Jones) by just being honest. I don’t know why he cannot get this through his thick skull. This made him even more jealous of Todd (Mel Rodriguez). He just did not understand how someone could move past outer beauty to the inner beauty. The foursome create some sort of government complete with grievance board. And… Phil found a real live cow! Although Phil really wanted burgers and steaks, he was outvoted in favor of fresh milk and dairy products. On top of everything else, Carol (Kristen Schaal) really wants them to live together.

The Last Man On Earth 1.9 “The Do-Over” & 1.10 “Pranks For Nothing” review:

“Aw Phil. Sleep apnea is a part of who I am. Just like dandruff and aggressive night toots are a part of who you are.”

That right there is really what marriage is all about. Carol has that correct. But Phil doesn’t seem to understand. As is obvious in the title, Phil wants a do-over and asks God for one. God seems to listen by delivering…

Spoilers if you have not seen the episode yet! Do not continue reading if that is the case!

Lizzie Borden Chronicles 101-01

The Lizzie Borden Chronicles
Episode 1.2 “Patron Of The Arts”
Directed by Stephen Kay
Written by Richard Blaney and Gregory Small
Starring Christina Ricci, Clea Duvall, Cole Hauser, Bradley Stryker, Jeff Wincott, Olivia Llewellyn, Dylan Taylor, Kimberly-Sue Murray
Lifetime
Air Date: Sunday, April 12th, 2015, 10pm ET

Let’s recap Episode 1 of Lifetime’s limited series, The Lizzie Borden Chronicles, before we get to this week’s review.

Last week’s episode ended with a smile. Lizzie Borden’s (Christina Ricci) smile, that is. Her smile contained the promise of an evil little secret, one that the audience is in on of course. I’m not sure I would not have believed Lizzie either. Ricci plays her excellently.

Four months after she was acquitted of killing her parents, Lizzie and Emma Borden (Clea DuVall) still live in the same house in the same town. She is infamous and frightening to most of the townsfolk. As well they should be. Detective Siringo (Cole Hauser), a Pinkerton man, rolls into town to quietly do some of his own investigating into the Borden murders. I hope he doesn’t find himself on the wrong end of a blade, rope, horseshoe, whatever. Lizzie and Emma bail their brother William out of jail, and he proceeds to make demands and threats to the sisters, which we know does not bode well for him.

‘Project Almanac’ Director In Talks To Helm ‘Power Rangers’

Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Saban Lionsgate Movie

Last year it was announced that Lionsgate would be rebooting the Power Rangers. Production has been slow going for the film, which is expected to get a July 2016 release, having already lost executive producer Roberto Orci . Although Joseph Kahn‘s darker take on Power Rangers isn’t actually a part of the franchise, and was considered more fanfare, the viral video hit set the bar pretty high. Even Saban Entertainment – the production company that helped bring Power Rangers from Japan and adapt it for American audiences – fought to have the video taken down. But the video may have actually helped the film in the long run, as there was a debate as to whether or not there can be a more mature Power Rangers or not. Kahn has explicitly stated that there would not be a longer version of his short, which may have disappointed those who liked the video.

Lionsgate’s Power Rangers probably won’t mirror Kahn’s short in the end, but they are finally narrowing down the list of possible directors. According to a new report, Project Almanac‘s Dean Israelite is now in talks to helm the Power Rangers reboot.
