If you’ve seen the commercials for Pitch Perfect 2 and wondered, “Hey! I need to first mock the first one,” well congrats because this week’s Screen Junkies Honest Trailer is up! Presenting… Pitch Perfect!
Check out the video below.
The 2012 surprise hit starring Anna Kendrick and Rebel Wilson told the story of Beca (Kendrick) who is talked into an all girl a capella group on her college campus. The Honest Trailer hooks me right away by tapping into my childhood with references to Carmen San Diego and Michael Winslow of Police Academy/Spaceballs fame, before declaring the film, “The greatest movie ever made about making noises with their mouth!â€
Narrator Jon Bailey focuses on the two aspects of the film that drove me the most nuts watching it… AND I liked the movie. First it’s the one dimensional stereotypes the girls in the Bellas group portray; the slut, the lesbian, the bitch, and of course… Rebel. I remember joking that there was a clause in her contract where she’d get a bonus every time she called herself “fat.” Her character name on IMDB is actually “Fat Amyâ€. Sure Wilson is funny, but it’s not exactly the message you probably want to send. But since she’s making fun of it…
Secondly, the film treats a capella groups like rock stars. I love a capella, but seriously if you didn’t notice this watching the movie, the HT will really make you think, “why is an a capella tournament selling out a huge arena?†At least Glee realized their characters were outcasts who need to break away and lose themselves in the world of show choir.
Bailey has fun going through all the “Aca-puns†like “aca-politicsâ€, “aca-scuse meâ€, “aca  “Great now you have me doing it!†Starring Anna Kendrick Lamar(!) and Reblissa Wilcarthy… which I love because Wilson is basically a younger, Australian version of Melissa McCarthy anyway. He ends by revealing a much better and appropriate title: Mean Gleeks.
The video ends by setting up an epic Sunday Night Movie Fight between Youtube series: Screen Junkies and CinemaSins, which earlier this week debuted their “Everything Wrong With: Pitch Perfect†video. Screen Junkies has over 4 million subscribers and releases a new Honest Trailer every Tuesday. CinemaSins also has over 4 millions subscribers and their videos, highlighted by their EWW series has well over 700 million total views.
Pitch Perfect 2 is out in theaters this Friday, May 15th.
