The new trend in Honest Trailers is to preview the big release of the upcoming weekend. After Pitch Perfect and Entourage the last two weeks, the Screen Junkies guys debut this afternoon The Lost World: Jurassic Park trailer, mocking Steven Spielberg’s 1997 sequel to the legendary 1993 hit Jurassic Park. In fact the sequel thing is the first thing they poke fun, relating Lost World to one of the unnecessary Jaws sequels. Narrator Jon Bailey also asks a question I always pondered:

“Why isn’t the title Jurassic Park 2: Lost World?”

“Now get ready for a generic run-away-from-dinosaurs movie.” Everything that made the first special, is stripped to its bare bones for all the cliché sequel tricks like bigger body counts, more action and violence, and dumbed down characters. I guess I didn’t realize back in 97, how often the T-Rex was used in this movie. After all, in the first one it’s the one classic scene in the car, and minimal use throughout.
The cast is shredded as usual, especially Jeff Goldblum and Julianne Moore. Moore is referred to as a “stumbling Miss Magoo”. The addition of Goldblum’s daughter also provided the “low point for the series” until of course the talking raptors from Part 3… no I’m not kidding, and yes, it’s that stupid. This Honest Trailer also proves that ANYTHING is funny with Benny Hill music as they speed up a raptor chase scene in hilarious fashion.

Finally… you can’t make fun of this movie without mentioning the absolutely ridiculous, movie killing, final twenty minutes where a T-Rex escapes on an ocean liner and cruises into San Diego for a total Godzilla spoof. When they get to the “Starring” part, nothing much is memorable until Bailey can’t pronounce Pete Postlethwaite’s last name and eventually settles on Kobayashi (an ode to The Usual Suspects). Then they end with San Diego on the screen but Bailey (channeling his inner Ron Burgundy) calls it “A Whale’s Vagina.” The alternate title – 2 Jurassic 2 Furious… okay I chuckled for those last two jokes.
