20th Century Fox has released a second official trailer for Hitman: Agent 47, the second movie based on the massively popular Hitman video game franchise. The first movie based on the games was released in 2007 and starred Timothy Olyphant as the barcoded assassin.

The new movie sees Homeland and The Young Victoria star Rupert Friend putting on the trademark black suit with a blood-red tie. Also starring is Hannah Ware, Zachary Quinto, Ciarán Hinds, and Thomas Kretschmann.

SYNOPSIS:

HITMAN: AGENT 47 centers on an elite assassin who was genetically engineered from conception to be the perfect killing machine, and is known only by the last two digits on the barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. He is the culmination of decades of research – and forty-six earlier Agent clones — endowing him with unprecedented strength, speed, stamina and intelligence. His latest target is a mega-corporation that plans to unlock the secret of Agent 47’s past to create an army of killers whose powers surpass even his own. Teaming up with a young woman who may hold the secret to overcoming their powerful and clandestine enemies, 47 confronts stunning revelations about his own origins and squares off in an epic battle with his deadliest foe.

As for how the movie looks? Ehhh—as a Hitman fan I’m getting the same vibe I got from the first movie…a not so good vibe. Friend looks like a better 47 I suppose, but after that the red flags start popping up. The Hitman games are about silence and subtlety. You’re always seeking that “Silent Assassin” bonus at the end of each level. If THIS much action breaks out in something Hitman related, it’s because you messed up big time, got bored and decided to just go nuts, or you’re making a movie and think that adding boatloads of mindless action to sell tickets is always better. Also, something minor that will bug fans of the games to no end: 47’s head. It should be completely bald. Baby’s bottom. Why someone decided he’ll be bald in this movie…but only mostly bald…is beyond me. Nice to see the rubber ducky make a cameo though!

Hitman: Agent 47 will be released in theaters on August 21st. You can also watch the first official trailer that was released back in February if you missed it.
