Recently while clarifying comments he had made, Star Trek star and Star Trek 3 writer Simon Pegg appeared to reveal that the official title would be Star Trek Beyond, though it was unconfirmed at the time.
Now director Justin Lin has confirmed that Beyond will indeed be the title of the trilogy maker in the rebooted movie franchise. Lin confirmed the title on the Twitter along with the message “Let the next Starfleet voyage begin!” and an image of a Starfleet patch.
Lin has spoken about how emotional it was for him to take on the role of directing a Star Trek movie after a childhood spent watching the original TV series with his family.
Along with Pegg, Star Trek Beyond also stars Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Anton Yelchin, with Idris Elba said to be playing the role of the villain in the movie. Doug Jung co-wrote the screenplay with Pegg.
The movie is currently scheduled for release on July 8, 2016.
