Ronda Rousey

One could argue that MMA fighter Ronda Rousey is one of the greatest athletes of this generation. Her fighting techniques allows her to bring down her opponents almost in an instant. In her latest match, Rousey was able to knockout Bethe Correia in 34 seconds flat. Aside from her MMA activities, Rousey is also a film star having appeared in The Expendables 3, Furious 7, and Entourage (for which she played herself). With her stardom only just taking off, it was only a matter of time before her life story would be turned into a movie. And now with Paramount purchasing the rights to her autobiography, they have just done that. But rather than go through the audition process to find someone in her likeness, reports are saying that Ronda Rousey will play as herself in the film.

More on the story below.

Variety confirms that Mark Bomback (Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, The Wolverine) will adapt Rousey’s autobiography My Fight/Your Fight for the big screen. Mary Parent will produce alongside Rousey. Written by Ronda Rousey and her sister Maria Burns Ortiz, “My Fight/Your Fight.”

Here’s the official description from Amazon,

“The fight is yours to win.”

In this inspiring and moving book, Ronda Rousey, the Olympic medalist in judo, reigning UFC women’s bantamweight champion, and Hollywood star charts her difficult path to glory.

Marked by her signature charm, barbed wit, and undeniable power, Rousey’s account of the toughest fights of her life””in and outside the Octagon””reveals the painful loss of her father when she was eight years old, the intensity of her judo training, her battles with love, her meteoric rise to fame, the secret behind her undefeated UFC record, and what it takes to become the toughest woman on Earth. Rousey shares hard-won lessons on how to be the best at what you do, including how to find fulfillment in the sacrifices, how to turn limitations into opportunities, and how to be the best on your worst day.

Packed with raw emotion, drama, and wisdom this is an unforgettable book by one of the most remarkable women in the world.

The trade adds that it is rare to see the actual subject to star in their own biopic, let alone play the actual person in question. But a biopic at this point in time may also seem a bit strange. However, her popularity continues to grow at an incredible rate. And with the fighter not only winning in the ring, but winning some starring roles in big budget franchises, it makes a bit of sense to see an autobiographical film now. Plus, by having her play herself, it adds a bit of authenticity, and will make the film seem a bit less dramatized.

No start date or release date has been mentioned. However, Rousey is expected to fight once more before the end of the year. She is set to appear in the Peter Berg actioner Mile 22, which starts shooting in January.
