Cameos in reboots are a nice nod to the originals, but don’t happen for all films, and it nearly didn’t happen for the upcoming Ghostbusters. Dan Aykroyd signed on for a cameo role in the new Paul Feig-directed reboot, which is currently in production in Boston. But he won’t be the only original member of the Ghostbusters cast to cameo in the reboot. Reports are coming in that Bill Murray had arrived in Boston last week, to shoot his own cameo appearance.

ComingSoon.net was the first to break the news. Now it is not known if the cameo roles played by Aykroyd and Murray know each other, but it has been confirmed that this film is completely separate from Ivan Reitman’s two Ghostbuster films. So don’t expect the reboot to acknowledge the events of the original Ghostbusters. The actor, who played Dr. Peter Venkman in the two Ghostbusters movies of the ’80s, reportedly shot his scene on August 7. Hopefully we will see something beyond the scope of just him walking by, but maybe rather him exchanging a few comedic gags with the new cast played by Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon, and Leslie Jones.

With two of the original members fully on board, Ernie Hudson is the only living one left to make a return. He wasn’t adamant about the reboot at first, but eventually came around. So maybe, since the film is still in production, there is time to sneak in a cameo scene. Of course there will be fans who want Rick Moranis, Sigourney Weaver, and Annie Potts to cameo as well.

Ghostbusters also stars Neill Casey and Chris Hemsworth.

Written by Katie Dippold, Ghostbusters will be leaning towards a more scarier tone, according to Feig. The film is currently shooting, and is scheduled for a July 15, 2016 theatrical release.
