After Superman (Henry Cavill) was forced to kill General Zod (Michael Shannon) in Man of Steel, it was thought that that would be the last time we would see the Kryptonian villain. However, the recent trailer for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice supported the previous rumors that he would make a return after Lex Luthor (Jesse Eisenberg) somehow acquires his body.
It’s still to early to tell how exactly Lex comes into the possession of Zod’s body, though it may have to do with a rich man not knowing what to do with all his money except spend it on outlandish items. But in a new interview, Shannon reveals an interesting thing about a kind of transformation that General Zod has undergone since his death. More on this story here below.
Here’s what Shannon told Vulture,
“I was in my costume, and I couldn’t use my fingers because in the sequel I have flippers instead of hands. So I had these wax flippers on my fingers, and I couldn’t open the door, and I could hear Zack [Snyder, the director] being like, “˜Where’s Shannon? Where the f**k is he?’ and the whole crew was standing around. I was like, knocking on the door with my flippers, “˜Let me out of here!'”
Now I don’t recall any Kryptonians ever having flippers for hands in life or in death. Of course, these wax flippers could also be later swapped out digitally for something else, but it’s obviously that something will be happening with Zod’s hands.
With every big screen adaptation, screenwriters and directors will change the canon to fit the cinematic narrative. But how does Zod’s change impact the DC Cinematic Universe? Based on previous rumors, Lex has been acquiring pieces of the World Engine and using it to synthesize Kryptonite. However, the key to Luthor’s plan lies within General Zod’s body. What exactly is in that body that could bring Superman to his knees is unknown, but it is on a cellular level, with Luthor’s team forced to extract tissue from the body.
Directed by Zack Snyder, using a script written by Chris Terrio based on a story by David Goyer, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice opens in theaters on March 26, 2016.
