Last week on Sex&Drugs&Rock&Roll, Gigi (Liz Gillies) makes the whole band go to therapy. And yes… it is exactly what you might think with Griffin Dunne playing the therapist. He is the anti-Johnny (Denis Leary). He is an incense-burning, shamanistic, meditating, hippie doctor. The band responded with varying levels of hilarity. Gigi tries to work out her daddy issues. Rehab (John Ales) wants some good drugs. Flash (John Corbett) is obsessed with aging. Ava (Elaine Hendricks) rollerskates in booty shorts. Bam Bam (Robert Kelly) writes Drumsong. Johnny is skeptical, but his skepticism feels redeemed when they are dubbed, “The Most F***d Up Band In The History Of Rock-n-Roll.”
SDRR 1.6 “Tattoo You” review: Oh my god. Gigi got a “Johnny Rock forever” tattoo. What do you think his reaction was? Don’t worry. There’s a very understandable (to me) reason for that. Finally! We meet the mom! Gigi’s mom Cat (Callie Thorne), that is. And I LOVE her!
I’ve learned many new terms (NSFW):
1. Mrs. Twatinson
2. Tit-motized
3. Muff Cuff
4. Twat Swat
5. Pussy Pony
6. Vagina Blinders
And more…
I am unsure if I am happy with the way this ultimately turned out. Did Flash choose Cat or Gigi? The way it was handled was well done. It was a little hazy at first. I could feel the hurt that Gigi felt. Kudos to Liz Gillies for quite the believable performance
Watch the electric dynamic between Ava and Cat. Their banter is awesome. These girls should be besties. I really hope Kat stays. This show was already good, but she just took it up another level. She actually evoked tears in me and I just met her, “Gigi is my song, and you are getting all the royalties.”
The last scene between Gigi and Johnny tugged at the heartstrings again. I love that I get to explore this relationship with them.
I had thought the therapy episode was the best episode so far, but this one blew it out of the water.
Why isn’t this show getting 100% demographics in every age and gender group? Okay, maybe not children, but definitely everyone else.
SDRR airs Thursday nights at 10pm ET on FX.
